Love is a powerful message

When Thelma Rynes first showed me her drawing, I reacted very positively, which surprised me.   I didn't expect to see something that would affect me in such a visceral way.

I was immediately drawn to the simplicity of the design and the fact that the word “love” was apparent yet subtle enough that not everyone might recognize it at first glance.  After talking with Thelma and hearing the story of how it came to her, I began to realize that there might be an important and powerful message here.   (Thelma spoke eloquently and often of Christ's love for man.)

While the cross or crucifix is a symbol that looks back and reminds the world of Christ's suffering and the salvation he bought for us, the Love Cross looks forward and reminds us of our mission in the world:  to love one another.  While some might not feel the need for another symbol of Christianity, others might react as I did and be gently reminded of Christ's unconditional love and His command that above all else we should love one another as He loves us.
