A couple of years ago, while visiting friends in Knoxville, Tennessee the mother of a close friend asked me to look at something she had designed. She knew that my background was in product marketing, and that I had invented a product and had taken it to market and trusted my judgment. She told me a rather lengthy story of how she was inspired to create her design and the following is a brief version of her story:
Thelma Rynes, a devoted Christian, was having a restless night. She was angry and upset about some things in her life, even questioning her faith, and prayed for God's guidance. She slipped out of bed so her husband could get some rest. Stretching her arms, she caught a glance of herself in the mirror. "What do you see?" asked a quiet voice. She gazed through the darkness at a faint outline of her reflection. "I see a cross" she answered. The loving voice replied, "Then pick it up and follow Me".
After Thelma told me her story she pulled an envelope from her handbag and unfolded a paper drawing and showed it to me. I felt a warmth come over me when I saw it, knowing immediately that this was something very special. I understood it's simple yet positive message. Thelma wasn't sure what to do with this design, and asked me to help her. Her only instructions were that "it in all ways glorify the Lord". On Thelma's 80th birthday we surprised her with a gold Love Cross pendant. Thelma, now severely weakened by cancer treatments, cried with us as she saw how her design had "come to life". Later, Thelma shared with us that she felt that God would soon call her home, and gave us stewardship of the drawing. We feel God's guidance as we lovingly work on The Love Cross and it is our hope that the Love Cross will mean something special to you too, or serve to remind you of Christ's unconditional love and his command that we, above all else, love one another as He loves us. -John Strobel Please share your thoughts with us on our "Share it " page. |
